Adjunct Professor Dr Thomas Bauer
Thomas Bauer has lectured and researched tourism at universities in Australia, Hong Kong and Fiji for 25 years.
In 2018 he was Associate Professor and Acting Head of The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management for The University of the South Pacific (USP) and he is now an Adjunct Professor at USP.
His academic qualifications include Bachelor of Business (Landshut University of Applied Sciences), Bachelor of Business in Tourism (Munich University of Applied Sciences), Master of Business in Tourism Development (Victoria University Melbourne) and Doctor of Philosophy (Monash University).
He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, London and a Fellow of THE-ICE, The International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education.
In 1991 Thomas began his PhD research into commercial tourism and its impacts in Antarctica. Having visited the region 41 times as an expedition guide, lecturer and Zodiac driver, he continues to observe first-hand how tourism is managed and has played a significant part in Antarctica being recognised as the best managed tourism region in the world from which other destinations can learn.
Thomas has consulted on tourism projects to the governments of the Hong Kong SAR, various provincial governments in the People’s Republic of China as well as CNTA, and has worked on UNWTO missions to Vietnam, Maldives and South Korea.
Currently, he is the Team Leader for an integrated tourism development project in Indonesia.
