Carrying Capacity
Do you know how many you can take before you break..?
As travellers increasingly look to have more meaningful experiences, it is true that understanding the balance between capacity and yield is critical to establishing a workable, profitable and sustainable visitor economy. The key is knowing just how much you can ‘Take before you Break’. Or as it’s better known - the Carrying Capacity of your destination or attraction.
The 'right amount' is the maximum number of people that may visit a tourist destination or attraction at the same time, without causing destruction of the physical, economic, socio-cultural environment, or an unacceptable decrease in the quality of visitor experience and/or satisfaction.
Today travellers have unprecedented affordable access to significantly more places than ever before. Managing these visitor flows has, therefore, become a critical part of Responsible and Sustainable Tourism development.
Not doing so is now increasingly being viewed as irresponsible, as the consequences of inaction can be catastrophic for a destination, its cultural assets, its brand and most importantly for those who call it home.
Our team is there to work with and alongside you to ensure your future ‘Carrying Capacity’ goals are understood and met by all Government and Industry stakeholders for the betterment of community and travellers alike.
